Robotics and Coding for 5th Grade

This week, we took a short break from our current Agents for Change project (we are researching improvements to our school playground) and worked on some coding activities.  We worked with Sphero Robots (they were a big hit) and began some 5th grade courses in Code.org. Students also used iPads to program the Ozobots.  It was a FUN day in LEAP!

Field Trip! VA Living Museum

We had a fantastic time on our field trip!  We visited the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News.  We attended a special program for our class that was all about  life in the Chesapeake Bay.  We got to touch some sea creatures, view water samples through a microscope, and many other fun activities! It was a great day with lots of hands-on fun!  Many of the students got to see an up close view of living things we have been studying through our Google slides projects!

Agents for Change Shoreline Clean-up Project

As agents for Change, we started with a community project.  5th grade students teamed up with the Friends of the Rappahanock to learn about the importance of keeping our local waterways clean, and how to clean up our shoreline.  Students collected trash from the beaches, researched the effects of pollution, and presented their digital and physical projects at the Urbanna Oyster Festival Education Day this fall.
